The HEAT Project is currently led by Martin Mathers. He has been with us since the start and brings years of experience in climate change, energy and related issues.
Len Seal
Director
Len’s role at the Trust is to manage the HEAT Project, develop the Strathmore cycle network and contribute more generally to the health of the organisation. He is also chair of Tayside Woodland Partnerships since 2023.
He worked for almost forty years in social work – with older people, in criminal justice services, child protection and children with disabilities and their families. The final eleven years was as a senior manager with a voluntary child care agency managing large budgets and staff teams. Len brings many skills to the Trust including people management, strategic management, service design and delivery and conflict resolution. He is committed to working towards the town being a more vibrant active community with a ‘buzz’. Len is a committed advocate for social justice and supporting many projects which address the consequences of climate change and plastic pollution. He has chaired various voluntary groups and two Relays for Life in Blairgowrie.
Martin Mathers
Project manager
Martin holds an honours degrees in biology and environmental science from the University of Stirling. Has was a climate change campaigner with WWF for over 10 years after which he was seconded to Scottish Government sustainable development team and later worked for the industry team (3 years total). Before joining BRDT in 2017, spent 8 years with ScottishPower Renewables developing many of the largest onshore windfarms in the UK. He has renovated several houses including improving the energy efficiency. His expertise runs from the scientific to the practical. He also serves on the Perth and Kinross Climate Commission.
Craig Thompson
ENERGY ADVISOR
Craig Thompson recently joined The Heat Project from Hillcrest Homes, where he as been helping to deliver energy advice to social housing tenants for the last four years. Prior to working at Hillcrest, Craig was with SSE Plc for 18 years and has extensive knowledge of energy tariffs, heating systems and renewable technologies. He also has experience in funding for insulation and other energy saving measures, and has worked with several successful community projects across the country.
Craig is passionate about energy efficiency, social equality and inclusion, and is a strong advocate for consumer rights.
Nathan Jamieson
ENERGY ADVISOR
Nathan has an energy and climate background having studied environmental science at the University of East Anglia before working on Suffolk County
Council’s BEE (Business Energy Efficiency) Anglia programme and Groundwork East’s sustainability projects in the East of England.He is involved in a number of community groups in Perthshire including the Perth and Kinross Climate Change Commission, Blairgowrie Climate Café, Blairgowrie and Rattray Resilience group, and Blair Biodiversity group. Nathan has a keen interest in action on the ground to improve energy
efficiency, fight climate change, and improve people’s lives.
Shannon Chang
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND MARKETING OFFICER
In 2019, Shannon joined the HEAT Project and applied her marketing, strategic, and analytic thinking to raise effective brand awareness and brand recognition of the HEAT Project.
A native of Taiwan, Shannon was, for several years, a senior digital marketing, public relationships, webmaster and project manager, working with a major telecommunications service provider, an innovative technology company and lastly with Taipei City government. She took a career break to study for her Masters Degree in International Marketing from Glasgow Caledonian University and has since settled in Scotland. She is passionate about house restoration, the environment, sustainability, all things eco-friendly and the social justice sector.
